Some larger birds often nest in what are called "mounds." These nests incubate the eggs with the warmth that results from being surrounded by decaying plant matter. Small birds tend to construct "cup" nests, which are some of the smallest nests. These are made out of pliable materials, like grass, and are constructed as deep cuplike structures to house the eggs.
