Jumping spiders of the Phidippus genus are cute. Two of the cutest are the male members of the Phidippus johnsoni and Phidippus apacheanus species. Jumping spiders have eight eyes; two of them are especially large and bright and give their faces an oddly cheerful look.
The P. johnsoni is a spider that grows to about 0.5 inches long. It is notable for its bright red abdomen and shiny thorax. The female, which is larger, also has a bright red abdomen with a black stripe running through it. The P. apacheanus has both a red abdomen and a red carapace. This spider can grow to be 0.4 inches long.
