Some common types of hornets are European hornets, yellow jackets and bald faced hornets. There are more than 20 species of hornets. The majority of them are stinging insects.
Each type of hornet has slightly different physical characteristics. Bald faced hornets are one of the largest types of hornets, even larger than the yellow jacket. It looks similar to the yellow jacket, but it has markings on its abdomen and face area. The European hornet is approximately 1.5 inches long with six legs and two pairs of wings. It is a reddish-brown color. Bald faced hornets tend to be more aggressive, but European hornets still sting when they are disturbed.
