- Examine the cat's ear
Take the cat somewhere peaceful, away from other animals. Fold the ear back, and look for signs of built-up debris or wax. If the wax is dark or there is an odor present, take the cat to a veterinarian.
- Get an ear-cleansing solution
Make a solution of one part white vinegar to one part water, or buy an ear-cleaning solution from a veterinarian.
- Clean the cat's ear
Wet a cotton ball with the solution, and gently wipe away the debris. Keep the cat calm during this procedure with a soothing voice or light petting.
