Venice, Fla, is considered the Shark Tooth Capital of the World. Specifically, Venice Beach is known for the abundance of shark teeth that can be found on its shores.
The Shark's Tooth Festival held every year in April in Venice is a major tourist attraction offering concerts, family activities and the Shark's Tooth 10k run. The abundance of shark teeth in Venice Beach is directly attributed to the large shark population in the Gulf of Mexico and the fact that Florida was under water for millions of years. Also, fossils of other creatures can be found on the beach; however, digging is prohibited without a permit.
