Chocolate lab breeders are individuals who breed Chocolate Labrador Retrievers. Labradors have one of the three color variants, according to the American Kennel Club: black, yellow or chocolate.
The genetics controlling the color variants of Labrador retrievers have been identified. The company Veterinary Genetic Services offers genetic tests for breeding stock so that breeders can selectively produce particular colors. If color is not used as a criterion for breeding, all three color variants can occur in the same litter of Labrador retrievers. Lines of Chocolate Labradors that breed true for chocolate can and have been established. Depending on the genetics of the parents, Chocolate Labradors can also descend from black or yellow parents.
