The miniature schnauzer is intelligent, affectionate and extroverted. He is easy to train, supremely loyal and protective, but he can also be very stubborn. His trademark walrus mustache, big beard and bushy eyebrows give him a unique appearance.
The miniature schnauzer is a quick learner and can be taught tricks with ease. His powerful little legs are ideal for jumping tricks. He excels at agility competitions. The simplicity with which he trains also suits him well for obedience competitions.
The miniature schnauzer's bark can be piercing. He makes a superb watchdog and only welcomes strangers when his owner lets him know they are trustworthy. He showers his owner with affection and demands a lot of attention.
He can be stubborn, and when he does not want to do something, he simply pretends he cannot hear his owner. He's smart and if he gets away with something once, he knows he'll be able to get away with it again and again.
He needs daily exercise because of his compact size. He is generally 12 to 14 inches tall and weighs 11 to 20 pounds. He is unaware of his own size though, and this tends to get him in trouble with larger dogs.
