A dog bred by crossing an American Pit Bull Terrier and a Cane Corso is an American Pit Corso. As of August 2014, the cross is recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club but not by the Designer Dogs Kennel Club.
Hybrid or designer dogs are bred by crossing purebred parents from two different breeds. The goal is to produce puppies combining the desirable traits of both breeds. A breeder may continue to select for desirable traits while breeding hybrids of the same type to each other or back to either of the parent breeds, but the puppies have no ancestry outside the two foundation breeds.
