The Stellar sea lion is a common misspelling of the Northern or Steller sea lion, a marine mammal found in the Northern Pacific ocean. Their habitats range from Japan to California.
Their principal breeding grounds can be found in the Gulf of Alaska and on the Aleutian Islands. The western edge of their range includes much more southern waters, extending as far as central California. However, in the eastern edge of their range, they only live as far south as Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost island. Steller sea lions prefer sub-arctic and cold temperate waters, and the beaches they congregate on are rocky or gravely rather than sandy.
