Snails live in many different habitats and can be found in deserts, water environments, ditches, forests and marshes. Even when they live in hot environments, snails try to find shady areas. They are out more frequently when it is cloudy or at nighttime.
Some species live underground and come above ground when it is raining to avoid drowning. They prefer an environment with humidity, but can adapt to areas with dry air.
If a snail can find food and shade, it is likely to survive. Snails feed on plants, both ones that are alive and those that are decaying. They are often viewed as a garden pest because they eat the flowers and fruit off vegetation.
