As of September 2015, the Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences, National Geographic and Discovery News websites display images of different types of bugs. Penn State's insect image gallery offers the option of viewing photos by category.
Species categories include ants and termites, bees and wasps, beetles and ticks. The college also classifies images by characteristics such as beneficial, household, invasive, and tree and shrub bugs.
National Geographic's site has several bug slide shows, including collections featuring lightning bugs, camel spiders, lady bugs and mating bugs. Each set of photographs is accompanied by text that covers geographic area, diet, appearance and protection. Discovery News presents a gallery of unusual bug images, such as an electron micrograph image of a southern house mosquito. Close-up photographs include a brown recluse spider and a fly’s compound eyes.
