Tibetan terriers may be bought from reputable, AKC-registered breeders. Some Tibetan terrier rescue groups and local animal shelters may also have available dogs of this breed for adoption.
The American Kennel Club provides an online search tool that allows interested individuals to search for puppies and dogs from AKC-licensed breeders or members. Online users may search by breed or by location. The site also provides information about the breeder, such as the parent club or the national club for the breed, address, contact information and the number of available puppies. The AKC site also has useful information about the origin, personality and the standard characteristics of a Tibetan terrier.
Many animal shelters and rescue groups post advertisements of adoptable puppies on online pet adoption sites, such as Adopt A Pet and Petfinder. Like the AKC, both of these pet adoption sites provide search tools by breed and location. The Tibetan Terrier Club of America is a non-profit organization that rescues Tibetan terriers across the United States. The TTCA provides pictures of the adoptable dogs and the reason why the dogs ended up in the care of the club. It must be noted that most rescued dogs are previously owned and are usually more than a year old.
