Both the American Kennel Club (AKC) and the United Kennel Club (UKC) list the breeds recognized by each club in alphabetical order. The Dog Breed Info Center website has an alphabetized list of the breeds recognized by the Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI).
In the United States, there are two primary dog breed registration services—the AKC and the UKC. The FCI registers dog breeds worldwide. Breed clubs that want their dog breeds recognized by the AKC have to petition the club for acceptance of their breed. Some of the criteria for acceptance include a written breed standard, accurate breeding records and proof that the traits of the breed are breeding true.
