Adopting an animal from an SPCA can be accomplished by filling out necessary forms and meeting adoption requirements. Requirements may vary depending on location. SPCAMC.org lists four simple steps that are required in order to adopt an animal.
Before an animal can be adopted, the SPCA takes time to consider a few important details such as the adopter's home life, lifestyle and interests. The adopter is then matched with a suitable animal's training, social and exercise needs.
SFSPCA.org has strict requirements that must be followed in order to be considered eligible to adopt a pet. The organization requires an adopter to be at least 18 years of age and have a valid ID with proof of current address. Written landlord approval, proof of home ownership and/or a home visit may also be required.
Some adoptions may require attendance at training class and encourage all members of the family to meet the animal prior to deciding on adoption. If there is another dog present in the adopter's household, it is recommended to bring it into the center to introduce it to the adoptee before bringing the animal home.
Plan on spending at least one hour at the SPCA to complete the adoption process.
