The English bulldog is not known to shed excessively, or more than the average dog breed, and its coat is short, smooth and fine. Brushing can help improve the appearance of the breed's coat, but it is not necessary daily. Bathing is not recommended for the bulldog unless absolutely necessary.
The bulldog is famous for its wide, robust composition and its large jaws, which often have a noticeable underbite. Male English bulldogs are around 53 to 55 pounds, while females typically range between 49 and 51 pounds. The bulldog has a gentle disposition despite its appearance and is especially good with families. The highly affectionate nature of the bulldog means it requires a lot of attention. Bulldogs are also effective guard dogs.
