To build a squirrel baffle, perforate a stovepipe cap, insert a stovepipe, screw it in place, slip a pole inside the baffle, attach a clamp, and rest the baffle on it. This one-hour project requires a stovepipe, a pipe cap, a hose clamp, screws, a screwdriver, a drill and pliers.Continue Reading
Clamp a stovepipe cap to your work surface with the open end facing down. Outfit a drill with a metal-cutting bit, and drill a hole in the center top of the cap. Release the clamp, slide the cap over the stovepipe, lay the pipe on your work surface. Clamp it in place, and drill several holes in the side of the cap. The holes must also pierce the underlying pipe. Insert screws in the holes, and tighten them with a screwdriver.
Slide the baffle over the pole, lower it until the top is 4 or 5 feet above the ground, and mark the pole at that location. Lift the baffle off of the pole, and screw a hose clamp over the mark. Secure it tightly so the clamp does not slide under the weight of the baffle.
Slip the baffle over the pole, and rest it on the hose clamp.
