Teddy bear dogs are crossbred designer dogs that are usually the result of Shih Tzu and Bichon Frise parents. Other breeds that are sometimes used include Poodles and Schnauzers.
The common Shih Tzu and Bichon Frise cross is called a Zuchon and originated in the United States. Teddy bear dogs are small and usually weigh less than 15 pounds even as adults. The dogs are healthy and long-lived with smart, affectionate personalities. Depending on the cross, some teddy bear dogs shed little and produce less dander than standard dogs, making them good options for those with allergies. Due to being a crossbreed, these dogs have a variety of different coat colors including black, white, tan and combinations of multiple colors.
