As of 2015, no books have been written about Tia Maria Torres, founder of the Villalobos Rescue Center and lead cast member of Animal Planet's "Pitbulls and Parolees." A biography about Torres is available on the Animal Planet website, and several publications feature articles about her work.
Tia Maria Torres has a long history in animal rescue. After a stint in the army, she began a career in Los Angeles as a youth gang counselor that eventually lead to her work with parolees. She also founded the Villalobos Rescue Center, a wolf and wolf-hybrid rescue, around this time.
Her love of pit bulls began when she rescued a female pit named Tatanka from the Los Angeles Animal Shelter. She teamed up with the city to create the Pit Bull Support Group, tasked with providing services to pit bull owners. After a parolee agent suggested a program for parolees at the Villalobos Rescue Center, the partnership shown in "Pitbulls and Parolees" was born.
