A blue merle Pomeranian is a dog of the Pomeranian breed that has a dappled gray coat consisting of dark-gray spots on a light-gray background. Merle is a rare coat pattern in Pomeranians and is not mentioned in the breed standard, although Pomeranians can have any coat pattern.
Blue coloration is rare in Pomeranians, but it is one of the classifications under which a Pomeranian may be shown at dog shows. In addition to the coat color, merle is associated with light-colored or speckled eyes and speckled paw pads and noses. The gene responsible for merle can cause congenital problems with sight and hearing, so breeding two merle dogs to produce merle puppies is discouraged.
