What Are Some Facts About the Black Dragon Fish?

The black dragon fish lives in a temperate, deep equatorial ocean habitat and starts its life resembling a googly-eyed worm before transforming into a nightmarish creature. This fish goes through several developmental stages before its final metamorphosis into a dragon-like creature with a ferociously toothy grin.

As larva, the fish features eyes that float along on spaghetti like strands before it goes through its complete metamorphosis. The life cycle of the black dragon fish includes post-larva, adolescent and transitional adolescent states before reaching adulthood.

Like many fish that live in deep water, the black dragon fish is covered in photophores that allow it to make its own light. When the fish becomes alarmed, it lights up.
