The average male Bengal cat grows to be 10 to 15 pounds, while the average female Bengal cat grows to be 8 to 12 pounds. Some Bengal cats fall outside of this average range.
Bengal cats were developed primarily by Jean Sugden Mill during the 1970s and 80s as a hybrid between the Asian Leopard Cat and domestic cats. The purpose of the breeding was to combine the temperament of house cats with the beauty of wild cats. Of course, being bred from wild cats makes the Bengal cat one of the more mischievous cats, as well as one of the smartest, most active and most vocal.
