Laser declawing presents three advantages to cats, according to the Canton Animal Hospital. It reduces the risk that claws grow back, cats recover from laser declawing more quickly, and it eliminates the blood loss that occurs during standard declawing procedures that clip the cat's toe bones.
Additionally, laser declawing reduces the possibility of infection and post-procedure pain associated with traditional declawing procedures. For these reasons, laser declawing has become an increasingly common surgery. While laser declawing procedures present advantages to cats when compared to traditional declawing methods, the American Veterinary Medical Association cautions against declawing of any kind except as a last resort.
