A baby sea lion is called a pup. When born, pups are usually about 2.5 feet long and weigh between 13 and 20 pounds, but can weigh as much as 50 pounds.

A pup is carried by its mother for a gestation period of 8 to 11 months and is born on land. The average lifespan of sea lions is about 20 to 30 years.

Female sea lions are called cows. Male sea lions are called bulls. A large group of sea lions is known as a colony or pod. A colony can be made up of thousands of sea lions.
