Miniature Schnauzers stand 12 to 14 inches tall and weigh 10 to 15 pounds, according to Dog Breed Info Center. The breed originates from a larger German breed used for ratting, herding and guarding property.
Dogs of a similar type appear in German paintings as early as the 15th century, and the Miniature Schnauzer was first shown as a distinct breed in 1899. It was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1926. The modern Miniature Schnauzer is a small but sturdy animal that still makes a good watchdog as well as a family pet. It can adapt easily to living in small spaces, as long as it receives plenty of exercise.
