The mantis shrimp is believed to have the most complex eyesight of any animal, including humans. This marine animal has a much wider visual spectrum than any other animal, with an ability to see colors that humans can't see.
In addition to having a wider range of color vision, the mantis shrimp is able to see different light frequencies, including polarized light. Scientists have not been able to develop an accurate hypothesis about why the mantis shrimp has such complex eyesight. It could be a simple evolutionary advantage that allows them to better avoid predators and survive in their ocean habitat.
