The checkered albino garter snake is found in a range that extends north from central Texas to Kansas and west to southeastern California. They are found in grassy fields, along shorelines and in forests. They prefer to be near permanent bodies of water containing small frogs, fish and other prey.
Ranging from 2 to 4 feet in length, the albino variety of this snake is a pale pink and yellow version of the checkered garter snake, Thamnophis marcianus. It has red eyes. Since they are easy to care for and tame, the species is popular with reptile enthusiasts. The albino version of the snake is preferred over the ordinary type.
