Some of the ten most common names for female cats include Bella, Luna, Callie and Gracie, as reported by Vetstreet. Other popular names, as of 2015, are Kitty, Chloe, Molly and Nala. While some cat names are inherently popular, trending pop culture characters sometimes lead to surges in name popularity.
Bella was the most common name for pet female cats from 2007 to 2014. The classic and timeless Kitty has also kept a top five spot for many years. In 2014, the name Elsa, which is inspired by the popular Disney film Frozen, cracked the list. Nala, another Disney-inspired cat name, made its way to the top ten in 2014.
Luna is another common choice that has remained in a top five slot for a long time, as of 2014. Lucy has held a place in the top three most common female cat names from 2012 to 2014. Lily, and its variant spelling Lilly, are also very popular choices. Another flower derived name, Daisy, is also a common name for female felines. With the exception of 2013, the name Sophie has been in the top ten for the decade leading up to 2015. Chloe was also absent from the list in 2013 but made a comeback in 2014.
