Teach shapes to children by making a shape collage, drawing shapes on the sidewalk with chalk and sorting household items by shape. For a shape collage, cut paper into different shapes and sizes, and encourage the child to glue the smaller paper onto the larger piece of the same shape.
Draw large circles, triangles, squares and other shapes on sidewalks or driveways with sidewalk chalk. Position the child at the top of the driveway and send her on a mission to find a particular shape. Gather ordinary household items of different shapes. Place them on a tray and ask the child to sort them by shape.
