ST Math with JiJi is an interactive, hands-on and gesture-based math software designed to help Kindergarten to sixth grade students reach math proficiency through language-independent, mastery-based goals. JiJi is the penguin in the ST Math software games that helps students get past several challenges by solving math problems.
ST Math games use interactive animations that represent mathematical concepts to improve problem-solving skills. The games are self paced. Students advance to the next level through mastering the previous level. Some of the features in ST Math include embedded assessments, immediate feedback and whiteboard integration. Teachers and students can access ST Math on a desktop computer, laptop or supported tablet, such as an iPad, iPod touch or iPhone.
ST Math is based on research into the mechanisms of learning and uses interactive animations to help improve both the understanding of concepts and the problem solving skills of students.
The software is founded on the concept of spatial-temporal (ST) reasoning, developed by the research of neuroscientists at the University of California, Irvine. Since the brain's capacity for spatial-temporal reasoning lies at the heart of creative problem solving, ST Math presents mathematical concepts in ways that downplay or eliminate the need for linguistic explanation.
