Full Answer

The first column lists the separate pieces of data. If the data components are numerical values, the information in the first column is listed in ascending order. If the pieces of data cover a wide range of numbers, then the data in the first column is divided into intervals. In a test that measures scores from one to 100, for example, an individual might begin the first column with 0-10, then move to 11-20 and so forth. The second column in a frequency table tallies the number of instances a data value occurs. After each data or data interval is tallied, the third and final column puts the overall tally for each piece of data into numerical form.

What are the differences between a histogram vs. a bar graph?

    A:

The main difference between a histogram and a bar graph is that a histogram displays quantitative data while a bar graph displays qualitative data. Quantitative data is numerical and can be measured by counting. Qualitative data refers to a trait or characteristic.

What is a compound bar graph?

    A:

A compound bar graph breaks down data by splitting the columns to represent information comprising each bar. For example, a bar graph representing state employment rates can be turned into a compound bar graph by subdividing each state bar into columns to show unemployment percentages based on gender or race.
