To divide numbers, identify the dividend and the divisor. Divide the first digit of the dividend by the divisor, note the result, then multiply the result by the divisor and note it. Subtract that result from the first digit, bring down the next digit, and continue this process.
Continue ReadingA division problem has two numbers. The dividend is the number to be divided into. The divisor is the number to be divided by.
Determine how many times the entire divisor can be included in the first digit of the dividend. The result is a single-digit number. Note that number on your problem.
Multiply the result of the previous step by the divisor, and place the product underneath the first digit of the dividend.
Still working beneath the dividend, subtract the result from the last step from the first digit of the dividend.
Copy the second digit of the dividend next to the result from the first digit to create a two-digit number. Determine how many times the divisor can be incorporated into that number and repeat the process until the last digit of the dividend.
