Most tack stores have hackamores for sale. Hackamores are common items of tack used in Western and endurance type horse riding. They are also occasionally used in English type riding.
The essential parts of a hackamore are the noseband and the rein attachments. The noseband can be made out of a flat piece of leather a piece of rope, braided leather or even a chain. The rein attachments can consist of a bosal, which is a knotted piece of rope, or can be made out of metal and resemble the cheekpieces used with a curb bit. Sometimes a curb chain is used with a hackamore.
