Some ways to treat well water include using a filtration system or using water softeners. Other ways to treat well water include disinfecting it or distilling it.
Filtering well water removes its impurities by blocking it using a barrier, which can be physical, biological or chemical. Water softeners remove the particles that make water hard, including calcium and magnesium ions, by replacing them with softening agents, such as potassium and sodium. Distilling changes the water into steam and collects it in a separate compartment, leaving impurities in the previous compartment. Some chemicals commonly used to disinfect water include chlorine, ozone and chlorine dioxide.
