To remove cat urine odor from couches, blot the stain, vacuum the couch, wash the cushion fabric, mist the couch with vinegar and replace the cushion covers. The couch may require more than one washing to get rid of the cat urine odor.
- Blot the stain
Blot the wet stain with paper towels.
- Vacuum the couch
Remove the cushions and vacuum the entire couch. Vacuum the pillows and cushions as well. Use the upholstery attachment on your vacuum for the best results.
- Wash the cushion fabric
Remove the cushion fabric and place it in the washing machine. Add one cup of white vinegar and a bleach-free detergent, and run a cycle with cool water. Air dry the cushion covers. Check the covers for odors, and if you are not satisfied with the results, wash them again, this time adding an enzymatic cleaner according to the manufacturer’s directions.
- Mist the couch with a vinegar solution
Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Mist the entire couch before replacing the cushions. Allow the scent to fade before replacing the cushions.
- Replace the cushion covers
Replace the cushion covers and place the cushions on the couch. Spray the couch with odor-neutralizing spray. Your cat may still be able to smell its urine even if you cannot.
