Whether you use your washing machine several times daily or a few times per week, it gets dirty after a while. Clean and maintain the appliance that is responsible for keeping your clothes clean with a few simple steps.
Wipe the exterior
Use a soft sponge and all-purpose cleaner to wipe down the outside of the machine. If there is dust caught in small cracks that you cannot reach, use the crevasse tool from the vacuum cleaner. To make the machine shine, apply liquid car wax and polish according to the directions.
Clean the interior
Add 1 quart of chlorine bleach to the washing machine. Allow it to fill with hot water and run the machine for a few minutes to mix the bleach and water. Stop the machine and allow it to sit for 30 minutes. Start the machine again. When the cycle finishes, run through the rinse cycle again to remove all the bleach. Fill the machine with hot water again and add 1 quart of vinegar and let the machine sit another 30 minutes before finishing the cycle. The vinegar deodorizes the tub and dissolves any scale buildup.
Finish the job
Wipe the inside of the lid with all-purpose cleaner. If the bleach and fabric softener dispensers are removable, soak them in the sink. If they are not removable, wipe them using all-purpose cleaner.
