The Furniture Bank Association of North America lists resources that may be able to assist low-income individuals who need beds. Other possibilities include contacting a local church or Salvation Army center, or joining The Freecycle Network.
Furniture banks and charities are non-profit organizations that commonly partner with churches to help people who are unemployed, low-income or homeless. Both individuals and businesses such as hotels, colleges, furniture retailers and manufacturers donate gently used furniture and other household items to furniture banks. The Internet-based Freecycle Network, on the other hand, is a grassroots, non-profit movement of people giving and getting used items for free. Volunteers run the local groups.
