Some washing machines have lint traps. Some others have lint filters, and some rely on pump filters to keep lint out of the inner workings. The age and model determine whether any particular washing machine has a lint trap.
Many older washing machines feature lint traps or filters. The owner's manual indicates the precise location of the filter. As a general rule, many filters appear around the upper rim of the tub, and running a finger around the top often reveals the screen. Other filters are on the inside of the agitator, and still others are at one end of the hose that drains water out of the machine. Newer models tend to rely on the pump filter. Cleaning the pump filter or the lint filter regularly helps washing machines drain water more efficiently and keeps lint off the clothes.
