Some veranda decking materials include pressure-treated lumber, tropical hardwoods, composites, redwood and cedar. Pressure-treated lumber is the most affordable and the most popular type of material for a deck.
The lumber of redwood and cedar trees is prized because of their beauty and the fact that they do not have to be treated against rot and insect damage. These woods already have substances in them that resist these hazards. Tropical hardwoods also resist rot and insects, but they are difficult to work with because they are very hard.
Composite decking is made of wood fibers and plastic and does not warp or split. Plastic lumber is also very durable and contains no wood fibers.
