A vented microwave is a multifunction appliance that combines a microwave oven with a vented range hood. The ventilation feature directs airflow to ducts that carry air to an outside exhaust vent or circulate filtered air back into the building.
The installation location determines the available choices for internal or external venting. For example, installation of the appliance on an interior wall limits the method of external ventilation to the use of ducts that direct airflow through an exhaust vent installed in the roof.
Internal wall installation in a two-story building eliminates the selection of external exhaust completely. An external wall installation location allows for the use of short-run ductwork connected to an outside exhaust vent, regardless of the height of the building.
