As of August, 2015, Lowes.com and Homedepot.com have online design tools for planning cabinetry layouts. Of the six largest home improvement retailers, these are the only two, according to Statista.com. Many wholesale cabinet companies have similar virtual design applications. Web sites require users to log in to use the software.
The Lowes.com version of the room designer is located at Lowes.2020.net and requires log in, so users must have their account already established on the company's home page before using the tool. Choose tabs to either start from scratch or select Pre-designed Rooms to begin. Designs can be saved and a Help tab offers tips for getting started. A shopping list is constantly updated as designs are created and changed.
Similarly, The Home Depot, Inc.’s virtual designer is not immediately available on the company’s home page, but is located at hdapps.homedepot.com and requires log in. An account can be established on the company’s home page or from the virtual designer application page. The application offers support from designers either in the store or through online collaboration. Once the design is completed, it can be emailed to Homedepot.com's design team for additional assistance, support, suggestions and to schedule installation.
Easyplanner3d.com is an online tool unaffiliated with a specific retailer. It is free of charge and creates two dimensional designs as well as three-dimensional views of a room as it is designed. A tutorial is available in the Help tab. Rooms can be designed from scratch or modified from a sample, and a gallery is available to select a pre-designed room. Once completed users can print a shopping list or access links to retailers’ websites.
