Bottom drawer slides are better than side slides when it comes to saving space or appearance. But, when it comes to load-bearing capacity or efficiency, side slides are better.
Bottom drawer slides, which are also called undermount drawer slides, can be installed as 3/4 or complete extension on the drawers. There are two slides, which are installed on the drawer's bottom and at each of its sides. This saves space. Since the slides are hidden from view, they give better appearance than the side slides, which can be seen when the drawers are opened. The bottom draw slides normally offer soft close, which allows for smooth and controlled closing of drawers. Side slides, which are mounted vertically are able to provide better load bearing capacity or strength.
