HGTV's Web page for "Rehab Addict" offers tips on how to salvage older materials, restore old woodwork and re-purpose old cabinetry. The program also offers tips on how to update older homes to make them more energy efficient without affecting the original character of the home.
HGTV's "Rehab Addict" features Nicole Curtis, who purchases older homes that are in disrepair. She and her crew rehab these old homes to restore their original beauty. On the show's website are a number of videos highlighting some of Nicole's tips and tricks. Using old garage doors from a period garage, she creates a sliding room divider all while keeping with the correct era of the home. She refinishes older cabinets and alters them to provide period accents to fit into a kitchen. She strips paint off doors, tile and linoleum off floors, breaks down walls that are not original to the home and gets to the original woodwork whenever possible.
Curtis also states that sometimes it is necessary to go with new products. In those cases, she offers tips for how to incorporate the new so that it doesn't conflict with the original character of the home. She also offers compelling evidence as to why one should stay away from trendy decorating in older homes.
