What Are the Types of Artificial Light Sources?

There are a variety of artificial lights, including LEDs, incandescents and gaseous discharge. Artificial light is that which people have created in order to provide illumination for buildings.

LEDs (light emitting diodes) can provide different colored light. These vary from shades like white to ones like blue, red, and green. RGB lights combine different color sources into one. These are still a newer light source than other types of artificial lights.

One of the most common light sources, incandescent bulbs provide illumination through a filament within the bulb. Halogen lamps are also a type of incandescent that use halogen gas. Fluorescents also burn gas to function.

Gaseous discharge lights work similarly to halogen lights. They utilize gas to provide illumination. High-intensity discharge lights or HIDs are also a type of gaseous discharge light that use gases such as metal halide, high pressure sodium, and mercury vapor to provide illumination.
