A Down the Sink review of top waste disposal units selects the InSinkErator Evolution Excel as the best, while three Waste King models, the A1SPC Knight, L-2600 and L-3300, earn second through fourth places, respectively. The General Electric GFC520V rounds out of the top-five comparison.
The main advantages of the InSinkErator Evolution Excel that earned it a top pick in the DownTheSink.com are a three-stage one horsepower motor, an engineered sound-reducing dampener and a seven-year warranty. Although more expensive than competing units, it offers a more powerful grinding unit capable of handling most types of food scrap.
The Waste King A1SPC Knight model, with a comparable one-horsepower motor to the Evolution Excel, provides consumers with a lifetime warranty on parts and labor for any defects. It also features a muffled grinding system for quiet operation. The unit is larger than comparable models but typically cheaper than the InSinkErator offering.
Two other Waste King models, the L-2600 and L-3300, feature half and three-quarter horsepower motors, respectively. The major advantage of the first unit is its affordable price tag, generally retailing around $75 as of 2015. The latter, with a more powerful grinding unit, typically costs approximately $25 more than the L-2600, but offers double the warranty with a 10-year coverage on defects.
