The top brands for riding lawn motors include Craftsman, Husqvarna, John Deere, and Snapper and Simplicity products associated with engine manufacturer Briggs & Stratton, according to Consumer Reports. Craftsman products also overlap with other companies, as Craftsman mowers are typically manufactured by Husqvarna and include a Briggs & Stratton engine.
While traditional riding mowers were steered with the front wheels, as of 2015, riding mowers use rear-wheel steering for increased accuracy and efficiency, explains Popular Mechanics. These machines are known as zero-turn lawn mowers. Popular Mechanics ranks Husqvarna riding mowers as the top zero-turn products as of 2014 for their comfort, ease of use and low noise level. Simplicity, Craftsman and Arien zero-turn riding mowers also ranked highly.
