Toothbrush rugs are usually small- to medium-sized homemade rugs that consist of multicolored woven fabric strips. The rugs are called toothbrush rugs because the fabric can be woven together with a filed-down toothbrush. The predrilled hole in the toothbrush serves as the needle eye to which the fabric is attached.
Toothbrush rugs are also referred to as rag rugs. Homemade toothbrush rugs often consist of fabric strips torn from old sheets, clothing and various fabrics found around the home. In addition to rag rugs, the toothbrush weaving tool can be used to create place mats, fabric baskets, bedspreads, seat covers and woven purses, among many other things.
