For initial upkeep, make sure that the tiles are free of dust, spills and other types of wear that may damage the appearance and structural integrity of the surface. Before installing the tiles, make sure that they are sealed correctly, as they are very porous and may develop permanent stains when liquids and other solutions cover them
Saltillo tiles are clay floor tiles that are handmade in their namesake city of Saltillo, Mexico. They come in all types of earthy colors, and because of their natural composition, they are best cleaned with natural cleansers, such as vinegar. Chemical cleaners are often too harsh for the tiles and they may wear away at the floor's composition, resulting in fading and damage.
To make a simple cleanser, get a bucket, a mop, vinegar, water and a broom. Fill a bucket with a gallon of warm water and half a cup of white vinegar, and brush away any dust or debris on the floor's surface. Mop the floor with the solution, and allow the tiles to dry. After cleaning with the vinegar solution, fill the bucket with warm water and mop the floor thoroughly with the water to get rid of any vinegar left over on the floor's surface.
