Some tips for cleaning oil off a driveway include sprinkling something absorbent over the stain, scrubbing the stain with baking soda and water or scrubbing the stain with laundry detergent or dish detergent. Oven cleaner and WD-40 can also remove oil stains.
If the oil is still wet, soak up the oil with an absorbent substance such as baking soda, talcum powder, cornstarch, corn meal, cat litter or sand. Leave the material on the stain overnight until the oil has absorbed into the powder. Blot away any remaining oil with some paper towels.
For old or tough stains, scrubbing the area with baking soda can work. To use this method, moisten the stain with a hose and make a paste out of baking soda and water. Scrub the stain with the mixture and a stiff brush and then rinse the mixture off of the driveway.
Laundry detergent and dish detergent are designed to combat grease. Scrub the stain with the detergent and a brush and rinse the stain with hot water. Keep repeating the scrubbing and rinsing process until the stain is gone.
Oven cleaner and WD-40 can be good solutions for getting rid of very stubborn stains. Simply spray the stain with either substance and leave it to sit for a few minutes. When using WD-40, simply rinse the substance away with a hose. When using oven cleaner, scrub the stain before rinsing.
