To clean silver jewelry that looks dull, filmy or is starting to lose color, rub it with a mixture of a little mild dish soap and warm water. Use a soft cloth to clean each piece, run it under some cold water, and shine the jewelry with a dry soft cloth until it dries out completely. If that doesn't help, make a paste of three parts baking soda and one part water, and clean the piece using a soft cloth.
To clean gold jewelry and gemstones, mix some mild dish soap with sodium-free seltzer water or club soda, and dip the gold items into the water for several minutes. Take the jewelry out one piece at a time, and rub the dirt off it using a soft toothbrush. Wash the jewelry off under running water, and pat it dry with a cloth. Use the same mixture to clean costume jewelry, but don't soak the jewelry in it, wipe the dirt off using a soft cloth instead. Make sure to dry the jewelry off after cleaning it.
To clean jewelry that has pearls in it, mix a few drops of shampoo with some water, apply the mixture to a small make up brush, and gently clean the pearls with it. After that, go over the pearls with a clean wet cloth to get rid of the remains of shampoo. Clean turquoise jewelry using the same method.
