Pallets can be used to make decks, furniture, planters and wine racks. These types of projects recycle wood and make what are normally expensive wood projects much more economical and easy to do. Pallets can be purchased or obtained for free from some businesses.
There are several websites that give ideas, plans and tutorials for pallet projects. The website 1001 Pallets features more than 1,400 designs and ideas for free; the site also provides a service that shows free pallet spots on Google maps in many areas across the country.
For most of the projects found online, the pallets mostly stay in one piece. They may be reduced in size, but very often there is no need to pry them apart or deal with all the nails in the boards. Some of the patterns and ideas call simply for stacking and securing the pallets or turning them up on their end to complete the project, like with the wall planters that go outside. Coffee tables made from pallets are very popular and simply made by cutting the pallets down to the size needed. Some reassembly may be required depending on the desired look. Deck or patio bases can be created just by cleaning up and leveling pallets, then laying them out in the size deck that is desired and securing them. The wood can be stained any color.
